WoW – UPSC 2013, Umeå, Sweden

The second WoW Symposium was a joint venture between the WoW research group and the Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC) in Umeå, Sweden. Eleven WoW trainees attended, providing them an opportunity to “focus on graduate student and postdoctoral training in an interdisciplinary, collaborative, and international environment” – one of the goals of the NSERC CREATE program.

Participants from UBC, the University of Victoria, the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), UPSC, other Scandinavian universities and other collaborating universities also participated.

Outline of Events

  • July 1 – Stockholm – visit KTH Royal Institute of Technology
  • July 2 – Örnsköldsvik – visit biorefinery
  • July 3/4 – Umeå – The symposium schedule included opportunities to meet international students and researchers through a combination of presentations, organized lunches and dinners and tours of various labs.
  • July 5 – Networking

Five Trainees travelled on to the Cell Wall Meeting (CWMXIII) in France (WallTraC XIII International Cell Wall Meeting)  organized by INRA – the French National Institute for Agricultural Research.
